Simsbury Pollinator Pathway's Story

Simsbury Pollinator Pathway was founded in 2021. Our all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focuses solely on Simsbury, but the beliefs conveyed in our vision and mission are shared with like-minded organizations across the U.S. and across the globe.

The Pollinator Partnership, a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization based in San Francisco, was founded in 1997 and is now the largest organization in the world dedicated exclusively to the protection and promotion of pollinators and their ecosystems. The first Pollinator Pathway was created in 2007 by Sarah Bergmann who spearheaded a landmark pollinator-friendly, urban landscaping design project in Seattle, Washington.

The recent proliferation of town and regional pollinator pathway organizations like Simsbury Pollinator Pathway reflects the urgency with which we, as a society, must act. Imagine small pollinator-friendly spaces as “stepping stones” within a connected landscape, allowing the free flow of species across a healthy, native habitat. Together, our large and small efforts have the power to restore habitats and vegetation that support pollinators and, ultimately, the entire food chain.

Vision

Our vision is that of a world where humans work joyfully together to protect and nurture a healthy, natural environment in which pollinators, native plants, and all creatures thrive.

Mission

Simsbury Pollinator Pathway's mission is to increase the awareness and adoption of pollinator-friendly practices and behaviors in Simsbury through education, community engagement, and the installment of model gardens in public areas.
